Welcome to South South North

This Toolkit is the work of many hands. Everyone involved in SouthSouthNorth projects deserves special thanks, from our team members to our project owners and the beneficiaries of our projects.

First thanks, however, must go to those who have funded SouthSouthNorth’s work. The Department of Foreign Affairs of the Government of The Netherlands has funded SouthSouthNorth work for over three years, providing the major funding to develop this Toolkit. Without their support, it is doubtful whether much of our work would ever have been possible. The Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH has provided valuable contributory funding for the production of this Toolkit.

Secondly, I would like to thank the various expert writers for their massive contributions: Steve Thorne, Stefan Raubenheimer, Emily Tyler, Lwandle Mqadi, Shirene Rosenberg and Lester Malgas. Without them, this Toolkit would not have been possible.

Next I would like to thank the many contributors from our country teams. All SouthSouthNorth team members were involved in this process. In particular, the input coordinators from each country team provided substantial input. They are Flavia Nadalutti, Alexandre D'Avignon and Carolina Dubeux from Brazil; Mozaharul Alam from Bangladesh; and Martha Maulidia from Indonesia.

Many constructive suggestions and comments were gratefully received from our reviewers, Axel Michaelowa and Marianne Zandersen on behalf of the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWA), and Harold Winkler.

We also received helpful input from the following people: Geoff Jennet of Geoff Jennett and Associates; Donovan Gordon of Solutions Technology, Harro Von Blottnitz and Lauren Basson from the University of Cape Town. I would also like to thank Ricky Rontsch for her support with the final text.

Finally, I would like to express my deep thanks to you, Lester Malgas, assistant editor, for the dedicated support you have given to me in this project.
